Installing content item using Content Installer in IBM Control Desk 7.6

In this blog, I will give an overview on the steps to install content item using Content Installer which is available in IBM Control Desk.

Since I will perform this task in an 'automated' way, please make sure following prerequisites are met :-

- The WebSphere Application Server running IBM Control Desk is connected to Internet.
- HTTP port 80 and FTP port 21 is not blocked by firewall.

 

I will show step by step from a new installation therefore I will explain in 3 sections.

(a) Navigating to Content Installer application.
(b) Known error and how to fix it.
(c) Installing content item using Content Installer once the error is fixed.

 

1. Navigating to Content Installer application.
(a) Login to IBM Control Desk with user maxadmin.
(b) Go To -> System Configuration -> Content Installer.
(c) You are now in Content Installer application.

2. Known error and how to fix it.
(a) When you click on 'IBM Control Desk' content source, the list is empty.

(b) If you click 'Show table', you will see 1 record with no details and 'download' button.

(c) Once you click the download button, you will get Install Warning dialog "Installing this content may overwrite existing content. Please backup the system before installing.". Click Continue and you will see Install Content dialog. However, as you can you see following error is displayed :-

Product Prerequisite Missing
This package cannot be installed due to missing required products. Please review the failed prerequisite rules below.

(d) Click Close button. At side navigation bar, More Actions -> Edit Catalog.

(e) Update the Content Source Details's URL with following :-

http://www-304.ibm.com/software/brandcatalog/ismlibrary/resources/catalog?&client=ISCCD&sortBy=update_ts_desc&rc=SmartCloudControlDesk&rc=IBM_Tivoli_AssetType_ISMContentInstallerPack

(f) Click Save and now you will see the list of Content Items.

3. Installing Content Item using Content Installer.
(a) Click Download button at any Content Item e.g. 'IBM Control Desk Process Content Pack - Service Catalog' and click Continue button.

(b) At Install Content dialog - Step 1, check 'I Agree?' once you have read and agreed on the License Agreement.

(c) Click Install button and you will see the Content Item is being download. This should complete within a minute. Once it is completed, you will see Install Content dialog - Step 2.

(d) At Install Content dialog - Step 2, go to 'Replacements' tab. Fill in or select values accordingly.

(e) Click Install button and Content Installer will start to install the content item. This may take a few minutes depending on the content item.

(f) You will see message 'Package installation successful' once this is completed.
